6 Creative Strategies

Project Brief:
Using a common household sponge, I have used the 6 different strategies to demonstrate my Photoshop and graphic design potential. A sponge is a very common household item. Do you ever think to yourself, "What else reminds me of a sponge?" Well, that was my task in this project. By utilizing Photoshop and the 6 strategies- Combination, Isolation, Metaphor, Change of Environment, Similar Physical Shape, and Change of Material, I present to you... 6 Creative Strategies with a Sponge!

Combination: Poreous Orange
Just like the outside of an orange, a sponge contains many pores. I chose to do an orange because I thought it was a little amusing because an orange and a sponge look very similar. The combination works well together because of the holes and because an orange is a food while the sponge is used to clean.
Isolation: In With The New, Out With The Old
Sponges have come a long way throughout history. It is important sometimes to take a look down memory lane. These old sponges have been replaced by the new and improved sponge.
Metaphor: Piece of Cake
The first thing I notice when looking at sponges was how much this resembled the classic yellow sponge cake. The texture and the color reminds me of that thick scrumptious cake. It is also a kind of play on words, "sponge cake." So here is a piece of cake!
Change of Environment: Partee Over Here, Partee Over There
The classic yellow sponge has this scrubbing green layer which resembles grass. So what better way to represent grass than with a golf scene? This design was inspired by those happy spring and summer days partying with friends. Look at that blue sky in the back. How refreshing.
Physical Shape Similarity
The shape of a sponge looks a lot like a mattress because of that thick cushion. This design was inspired by the dense and springy mattress that we all love to be tucked into at night. Complemented with the sponge is a nice and sturdy white headboard and frame and some chilly pillows.
Material Change
This sponge looks a lot like that thick homemade churned butter. This design was inspired by the physical look of the butter more than anything. The thickness and the color looks so much like cold and rich butter slabs. It is complemented by a knife with little butter swirls. The name stems from how large the slab of "butter" is.
