Abled - Human Inspired Function

“The power of the Web is in its universality. Access by everyone regardless of disability is an essential aspect." - Tim Berners-Lee

Disability restrictions resulting from physical and or congenital causes, regularly result in contractures of joints. The impairment of the wrist restricts movement and functionality. Two specific medical conditions that are focused on are Spastic Cerebral Palsy and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Spastic Cerebral Palsy affects 7,000 New Zealanders annually, while Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy occurs in 1 in every 5,000 live male births.

Computer mice are vital for interface for navigation. Standardised devices lack accessibility, catering to accepted motion, sensory and cognitive capabilities. Wrist contracture impairments restrict use, hindering the interface experience. Abled enhances digital accessibility for New Zealanders living with upper extremity contractions caused by Spastic Cerebral Palsy and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Tim Berners-Lee states, “the power of the Web is in its universality. Access by everyone, regardless of disability, is an essential aspect". Abled provides innovative technology for accessible digital experiences. Following the 'form follows function' architectural principle, the product is designed to meet the user experience, providing its intended function and purpose. Throughout user experience and interface design, there's a breakdown of an immersive experience, built to navigate with current technology. This redefines a product launch centred around accessibility and usability of navigation, conveying the journey from hand to product.
