Insects: Lucanus Cervus

Insects are strange looking beings, the closer you look at them to stranger they look, a view into a world that we usually don't see or imagine.
The first project of my macro insect exploration journey is about Lucanus Cervus, known as the European stag beetle, or the greater stag beetle, one of the best-known species of stag beetle and is my special dedication to this species listed as near threatened by the IUCN Red List.
Photos taken in Moldova, July 2023. Enjoy
Male Lucanus Cervus in open space and bright sunlight. Males have big antlers to impress females and to fight other males
This beetle is said to eat dead/rot wood underground but here it seems it was eating a rot sour cherry felt on the ground
A closer look at his antlers, they look dangerous but it seems they can inflict just a small bite.
