Graphic Design: 6 Creative Strategies
This purpose of this project is to become familiar with 6 different creative strategies namely combination/juxtaposition, isolation, metaphor/simile, change of context, shape similarity, and material change/swap/focus. Exploring these 6 will help familiarize with more creative strategies, and assist in creating a more in depth work flow. It opens the creative mind, and challenges the thinker to truly think outside the box, get creative, and steal like an artist.
Combination/Juxtaposition: Posted Post-it
With this design I wanted to focus on the concept with post-it notes that you don’t have to be far to leave someone a note. I thought I could convey that by combining a post-it and a stamp--something you would usually use to send long distance mail.
Isolation: Folded Different
With this design, I found that setting the frog apart from the rest of the regular post-its drew more emphasis, focus and isolation to the frog.
Metaphor or Simile: Make Like a Tree and Leaf
With this design, I wanted to focus on the impact of post-its on deforestation. I chose to make the tree out of post-its that were flying away to emphasize the disappearance of trees that are used to make paper products.
Change of Context or Environment: Posta Rica
This design focuses on the cutout of the post-it on the city scene. I thought this idea would be very interesting like someone daydreaming about a vacation on a piece of paper. This design puts the post-it in a much different environment than normally associated with post-its.
Physical Shape Similarity: Posted Dates
For this design, I chose to make a calendar, another office supply that is often square-shaped.
Material Change, Swap or Focus: Wood-it Note
I thought for this design it might be interesting to make the post-it out of wood--a very close material to paper, though a few steps before.
