HODWY 2.0
For my Hacktahon project we have the Hodwy 2.0. I made this project because I wanted to test a new skill of sewing quilted letters onto a sweatshirt I already had but did not wear as much. I had seen sweatshirts like this being sold on Etsy, but I wanted to save money and make my own! So I took two sweatshirts I had, and used fabric I found in excess fabric bins from Hobby Lobby to make the quilt like letters. This project opened my eyes to the difficulty of using a sewing machine to sew hand cut letters onto other fabric, this project also tested my spelling, because I accidently spelt Howdy as Hodwy when I was first making this project and had to redo the entire thing, hence the name Hodwy 2.0. But even with the curve ball, I enjoyed making this project because I adore repurposing clothes and brining them to life, as I was also able to explore a new skill I wanted to build.
The Process
The process of the project started with me having to cut out the letters and elbow patches from the fabric. After I cut out the letters I ironed the fabric to ultra hold fabric bonder, because this helps the letters stay in place on the fabric when sewing it. I liked including this in the process because it allowed me to not have to pin such a small area. Once the fabric was placed on the sweatshirt, I ironed the letters down to ensure they held, and then I got sewing. I used a Brother sewing machine, and used a straight stitch for the letters, and a zig zag stitch for the elbow patches! In the middle of sewing the letters on is when I realized I spelt Howdy wrong. So I had to rip the seams to the letters I had sewn, and place them in the correct order. This set my time back a little, and did not allow me to fully complete the second sweatshirt I wanted to work on. But I have pictures of both. For the second sweatshirt I started to sew on a floral design made with bee fabric, and I sewed different strips of fabric together to give it a quilted design. Pictures are featured below:
Thanks for coming to view my project and hear about my silly curve ball!
