REBUILD RECONNECT REUSE

The Torre Rinalda redevelopment project aims to give a new condition to the ruin, intervening directly on it and reconfiguring it as part of the defensive system of the towers along the coast. To achieve these goals, the intervention envisaged a partial restoration of the volume, with the achievement of the original height, through the construction of a hollow masonry on two contiguous sides of the tower, facing the sea. This made it possible to visually reconnect Tore Rinalda with Torre Specchiolla, located north, and to give it the function of a belvedere.  The decision not to completely rebuild the volume was dictated by the desire to leave visible the signs of aging, maintaining the current shape of the courtyard and inserting a wooden pergola, which fits into the newly built masonry. To connect the courtyard to the ground floor, the pre-existing path was preserved, redeveloping the stairs and the hallway, and keeping the openings unchanged. From one of them, through the construction of a wooden staircase, you reach the ground floor, which will become an exhibition space, that can contain a permanent exhibition relating to the history of the Norman towers and further temporary exhibitions. In addition to the direct intervention on the tower, it was opted for the construction of a base, which follows the shapes of the existing curbs, with the aim of protecting it from the water and defining a public space, which houses the pre-existing horse trough. To complete the project, a wooden walkway was built, which connects the parking area with the landmark, going beyond it towards the sea, taking the form of a dock for boats. Wooden planks have been inserted for launching and hauling the boats on the adjacent beach.
