Ollie the Octopus
Until starting this course I had never tried drawing using a tablet. As a traveller, I usually only ever have my laptop and phone with me. Even when designing I am a steadfast trackpad user. Doen the line, this may change, once I get a proper desk set up, build up to a better desktop, but for now I have my laptop on whatever surface is handy and I draw with my finger. The challenge came when a project asked me to draw a digital painting using a tablet in Adobe Photoshop. So I drew, and erased, and drew, and erased…. Over and over. Finally, my design started t look the way I hoped. I named him Ollie, Ollie the Octopus. I gave him highlights and shadows, textured his suckers, then created a whole background world for him the swim in. I even made some 3D bubbles. He has happy eyes and a cheeky grin. He is glorious. Now what could I use him for? I made up a kids TV show for him to star in. This show title, Ollie Underwater, was made texturizing fonts, making the Ollie look more 3D, and the underwater got a dark overprint of waves and a glow behind. I needed to balance the empty space to the left, so I added a promo line for Netflix Kids. I also added A Netflix Original Series to the top of the poster.
This was designed as a school project and not directly for Netflix.
