Layers - museum in Vyborg
This reconstruction project seeks to revitalize Vyborg, a once cosmopolitan crossroads that is now in decay. The city, a spatial monument of times and epochs, is characterized by its numerous layers of architecture, culture, language, and time. Our aim is to restore the city’s former status as an international exchange point and cultural center by renovating three destroyed quarters into a museum cluster. This project reflects upon the lost inheritance and future of Vyborg, reviving its rich history and providing a platform for new cultural exchange.
Project includes reconstruction of three ruined quarters in the city of Vyborg. Now these areas are abandoned and excluded from the city tissue. The historical residetial quarter becomes a temporary exhibit center and the old Dominican monastery is to be rebuilt into a Vyborg history museum. In between there is a park - the transit zone and reflection site. The promenade in the quarter recreates the idea of creation of art and its archivation throughout the history.
