The first time I visited a World War II concentration camp was at Majdanek located in Lubin, Poland. It was a harrowing experience and I took very few pictures while trying to process all the information and my own feelings. As I was heading back to the car, I saw a lone woman standing next to the Mausoleum gazing somberly out towards the crematorium. That moment captured all the feelings of despair and desolation I had built up during the day and I furtively snapped this photo.
