Independent Living Units:
The person with dementia should be provided with independence as long as they are capable, and as abilities and cognition decline they should be kept on a routine, occupied with personalized meaningful activities, participate in non-drug therapies and be encouraged to participate in social interaction.

These units are positioned in the low density area of the community and offer the resident personal choice and privacy.  The main level of each unit is designed with the aging body in mind and offers key feature for those in the early stages of dementia.  The second floor of each unit is designed to be used by either a familial caretaker or a hired home health aid.
