Alien Landscapes XXIV

There are places in this universe that are very different from the planet you and I inhabit. Take, for example, the planet Twee in NGC 5194 (the Whirlpool Galaxy). Twee's sun produces considerable amounts of short-wave UV radiation. Thus life on Twee has evolved to use this band, either for photosynthesis or for vision. When non-Tweebs visit the planet, they report that everything seems to have a diffuse glow that fills them with inexplicable joy. This joyful side effect, which is still unexplained, is also felt by the Tweebs.

The terrestrial plants of Twee are inedible to the Tweebs, but there are highly nutritious algae that float in the air. Animal life on Twee are filter feeders, constantly pumping air through baleen to catch the algae. The single intelligent species, the Tweebs, have designed giant land-based and airborne collectors that harvest the algae from the air. These collectors are usually designed to resemble the Tweeds themselves.

These illustrations were drawn using Stable Diffusion 2.1.
