3D Printed Architectural Model

A client came to imakr requesting the production of a small portion of Gangnam to be 3D printed within a week for a business pitch. This project was one of the most ambitious jobs we had undertaken. Our printers were running all day and all night most of the week to finish the job. Each individual building and base were carefully finished by myself to ensure proper fitting and overall aesthetic quality.
Each portion of the model was split up into segments and distributed amongst our printers, we used a combination of Up plus printers,Flash forges, Makerbot replicators and Ultimakers to complete this job.
Some buildings had to be split in two for ease of printing and to reduce the chance of failure. In this image you can observe the middle sky scraper on the right had putty distributed over the seam line where two parts have been glued together.
Once all parts were painted with a matt white spray the buildings were inserted into their slots, glued and levelled.
A job of this scale could not of been completed within a week with traditional architectural modelling methods, the cost would be too great and labour intensive not to mention stressful.
A mixture of ABS & PLA filaments were used for this model, the base sections were printed using 3mm filament at 300 micron where the actual buildings were printed 150 micron.
Thank you for viewing, be sure to check out my other projects!
