• La Bastille reste, pour une majorité de français, un des symboles les plus forts de la révolution française. Sa prise, le 14 juillet 1789, est devenu depuis, notre fête nationale, consacrant ainsi cette forte valeur symbolique. Il existe actuellement une évocation de cette période sur les murs de la station RATP Bastille, inaugurée lors du bicentenaire en 1989 mais réalisée dans une scénographie assez laide et confuse. J’ai donc décidé de proposer à la RATP une scénographie plus dynamique et pédagogique de la période qui va de 1789 à 1799. Le projet consiste en une représentation chronologique s’appuyant sur une sélection d’une quarantaine d’événements clés (prise de la Bastille, chute de la monarchie, exécution de Louis XVI, coup d’état du 18 brumaire...) et autant de biographies synthétiques des acteurs les plus emblématiques de la période (Lafayette, Robespierre, Mirabeau, Danton...). Le graphisme de la scénographie est composé de formes géométriques colorées (autour des formes successives de notre drapeau national) avec la reproduction de grandes gravures d'époque évoquant les différents événements et de plaques biographiques des principaux acteurs. La chronologie des événements est figurée comme le tracé d'une ligne de métro (les stations figurant les événements) entrecoupée des portraits et biographies des acteurs. Cette station se caractérise par une absence totale d'affichage commercial et une structure ferroviaire enjambant en courbe le canal St Martin, ce qui rend la mise en place de cette scénographie assez complexe. Le projet a été envoyé à la RATP en avril 2014, qui, après avoir montré un réel intérêt, a finalement renoncé au projet pour des raisons techniques et administratives. ///

English. • In Paris, the Bastille is, for french people, the main symbol of the french Revolution. The fall of this fortress on July 14th 1789, start of the popular insurrection, has become French's national day. Since then, the fortress has been destroyed and the Bastille area has become a large plazza and a main subway connection. There is an evocation of the revolution period on the walls of the main subway station (on line 1) carried out in 1989 (for the Revolution bicentennial) with, currently, a poor and ugly design.

I decided to work on the project of redesigning this station around the theme of the french Revolution to remind tourists, french citizens and other subway passengers what happened above their heads during this historic key period. The project consists in a chronological representation of a selection of 40 key events during ten years (fall of the Bastille, fall of the monarchy, king’s Louis XVI 's execution, Bonaparte’s coup d’état…) with a selection of 35 main characters (Lafayette, Danton, Robespierre…). The design of this representation is composed of geometric forms (around the three colours of our national flag) with reproduction of large engravings of the period (illustration of the events) and portraits of the characters. The chronology is drawned like the map of a subway line (the stations representing the events) on the walls of both platforms with an animation of the portraits and biography of the main characters. This station shows distinctive features such as : no advertising billboards, contruction of the rails and plateforms over a canal and in a curve, and different heights of the walls. The project has been send in april 2014 to the parisian subway authority (RATP), which showed real interest at first, but has decided recently to say no for technical and administrative reasons. ///

• Le caractère : j’ai choisi le Bauer Bodoni (romain, italique, gras...) qui se rapproche typographiquement du Didot, très utilisé à l’époque en France dans les documents officiels. ///
