Contradictions

In 2011, I returned to the country I was born, mi Cuba linda y querida. I created a digital collage with 4 images I took while I was there that represents a world filled with contradictions. The palm tree represents abundance and growth that no longer exists, people live with no food and no opportunities. Opportunities that are only available if you are fortunate enough to escape.  The Capital (El Capitolio) represents the heart of Cuba because it's located in the center of Old Havana, a heart that has been neglected and broken. The 1950s cars represents a past stuck in time and a future that never arrived. The revolutionary signs that are all over the country represent the externalization of blame of the country's ideologies' cause and effect.
