The cracks are appearing everywhere. The old, historical
structures of our society are slowly but gradually crum-
bling under their own weight. Their expiry date has firmly
remained in the past but they still stand today as a mon-
ument of the old ideology which no longer is in step with
the times and the people. Despite this, these sociological,
ideological, political and economic structures are not giv-
ing in without a fight, holding in front of them the illusion
of indestructibility and eternity, although the cracks on
the walls and facades are visible from afar.
For this photography project I decided to focus on the
social problem of the transition from the old to the new,
ranging in all aspects of our everyday living. I was interest-
ed and fascinated by abstract photography, which seemed
to offer most regarding to this theme, with the possibili-
ty to examine and analyze the textures and colors on the
cracked walls of houses, which stand as an appropriate
metaphor for visible deteriation of the old in front of ev-
eryone’s eyes and people still happily and peacefully living
in them.
