Design Strategy
The medium consists of coloured lino print, ink pen, water colour and pantone markers. In addition to the rudimentary lines the unclear illustrations speak to memories and stories being warped by time. There is a heavy element of imagination and memories that the narrator draws from.

Lino prints form the background texture and shape. Water colours and pantone markers add extra shading and colouring while details are added with ink pen and brush work. The colours are lighter and build in brightness with layering - reflecting the passage of time and the blur of memories when revisited. Colours also sampled from collected images and then a tint added to match illustration style.
Genre & Theme
- Descriptive writing
- Historical
- Biography
- First person narrative

A life fit for the pages of a fiction novel - from flying planes in the world war to solving insurance mysteries and creating a family. A man of the world, photography, and music. A life that was constantly on the move, lived as if there was nothing to it. The title comes from a saying my great-grandfather used constantly - ‘Malesh’ - of the same meaning and is so interwoven with Big Paul as a character in more than just his habitual speech but his life.

This is the story of a man's life well lived, through the eyes of his grandson revisiting, and reminiscing stories he was told and experienced of his grandfather. Story is told with the dedication of gifting these stories to the narrators own children to hopefully bring them closer to their roots, and to learn something of the great-grandfather they were to young to meet.

A Snapshot Of Life
Imagery was sourced from photographs taken out of family archives, photographs were taken by the subject himself.
Process Work
The colour palette is drawn from family archived photographs. The colours reference older worn, colour leached , sepia photos to reference post cards and weather worn pictures. Typography is the handwriting of the narrator.
Illustrations intend to keep the grainy blur that often distorts memories and the passage of time, revealing how each iteration leaves its own imprint on our narrator.
