“Wildness is very often understood as something that exists outside our culture or what we know to be normal. It is acknowledged to be something that lies outside our framework of what is expected and conventional in our era of understanding” — Martin Drenthen, Dutch philosopher
Imagined Lairs
__
Imagined Lairs takes a look at how man views unique plantlife. The concept stems from an amalgamation of Charles Darwin’s study drawings of carnivorous plants and the interest in gothic horror novels of the Victorian era. Imagined lairs depicts man's wild fantasies of venturing into the lair of some unknown flesh-eating plant.
Brief:
The project calls for the designer to be inspired by nature—particularly artist and photographer Karl Blossfeldt’s botanical studies.
From there, create patterns by zooming in on aspects of nature through visual translations. The end result will culminate in a story about these visual translations and their meanings through a hanging banner, swatch book and video.
Deliverables:
Swatchbook 160×160 mm
Banner 60×3000 mm
