TRUCKNAMA
Decoding South Asian Design
Trucknama aims to identify, analyse, and study the visual language present in South Asian design, focusing particularly on the elaborately decorated trucks of Pakistan.

I intend to explore the various motifs, patterns, symbology and iconography present on these vehicles, and where they are derived from. I have also analysed how these forms evolved over time yet managed to retain their own distinct style. This project aim to provoke the viewer into looking beyond the visual, and to make them understand the rich history and context behind various design choices. It also intends to educate the viewer about the background information, context, and significance of these design forms in our culture and how they form a distinct part of south asian design identity.

I have presented a visual publication that will not only be used as a reference for helping understand the truck art and design, but will inform the viewer about the context, significance, and role of design in establishing a distinct national identity, as well, thus encouraging the viewer to reflect upon the place of images, design, and visual experiences in today’s social and cultural practises, and how these design forms should be recognised and understood.
