The Upper Falls of the Yellowstone River is located in the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone in Yellowstone National Park. It has a total height of 109 feet.
The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone is the first large canyon on the Yellowstone River downstream from Yellowstone Falls in Yellowstone National Park. The canyon is approximately 24 miles (39 km) long, between 800 and 1,200 ft (240 and 370 m) deep and from .25 to .75 mi (0.40 to 1.21 km) wide1. The canyon was formed by erosion as Yellowstone River flowed over progressively softer, less resistant rock.
Yellowstone National Park has large areas of alpine meadows and grass prairie, and this provides a nearly optimum environment for American bison who live in river valleys, and on prairies and plains.
