Studio 3 Architectural Design Project
Project created on site in Southport with an existing residential house. Focus during this Studio is on contextual response and creating spaces between spaces.
Tranquillity Neighbourhood Community Centre, created within an existing residential house in Southport, combines needs,
interests and observed qualities of the neighbourhood surrounding the site. The project is aiming to invite people inside to
explore and revel in created spaces. Activated street boundaries, encourage people to take a moment and relax, enjoying seating created outside, as well as invite them to step inside the centre to explore the journey created within.

The centre focuses on connection with nature, organic elements and the healing process. Significant elements have been
designed around existing trees, creating nature-friendly and tranquil spaces. Additional structures, extensions of the
existing house and new landscape, form a network of paths that viewers can enjoy on their journey immersed in nature.
Carefully applied curves and directed lines, lead and designate different paths to be followed around the centre. From
organic gardens and the café with natural herbal tea in the frontyard, through common areas and the relaxing library inside
the house, to hidden spaces created amongst zen gardens with waterfalls and activities rooms in the backyard, people can
relax, as well as calm and heal their minds.

Activities available in the centre include yoga, meditation, therapy pool classes, paint and sip meetings, as well as cards and
board games for seniors’ meetings and herbal garden planting classes. Tranquility Neighbourhood Community Centre is an
