HULA HUSTLE RACING
LOGO, APPAREL, AND MEDAL DESIGN
PROJECT BRIEF
The primary goal of this project was to design a comprehensive logo package for a Hawaiian-themed racing event, including a logo, t-shirt design, and medal design aligned with Get Racing’s vision by conducting brand research and undergoing a step-by-step design process targeted towards North Texas racing enthusiasts.
CHALLENGE
✶ How can I create a visually engaging design that serves the purpose of both a piece of apparel and a medal?
The primary objective of the project was to successfully implement typographical elements into vector graphics to create a cohesive package of project assets. The logo, medal design, and t-shirt design must function individually and collectively to serve their purpose and appeal to a wide-range of demographics.
RESEARCH
I began my reasearch by exploring past and upcoming race designs from Get Racing. I was attentive to the typography, color schemes, graphics, and overall aesthetics of each and every graphic and began to think about methods of implementing such observations into the design process.
MOODBOARDING
Next, I found myself in need of visuals to base my design off of. As such, I compiled graphics and images that best encapsulated the essence that I wanted to capture. I aimed to create a lively and vibrant island-inspired piece of merchandise that doubles as appealing apparel for runners.
DESIGNING
Following the compilation of relevant visuals conducive to logo and medal design, I began utilizing Adobe Illustrator to meticulously fashion a graphic that drew inspiration from the images above. Ultimately, I implemented a totem pole and a palm tree as the principal elements of visually representing Hula Hustle.
FINAL PRODUCT
REFLECTION
Through this experience, I was able to fully grasp the real-life implications of designing apparel and other products meant to be displayed to the public as it was the first time I had witnessed a tangible representation of my work. In doing so, I refined my abilities in tailoring the design process for client work and subsequently gained professional experience in the design industry that I had not had the opportunity to experience beforehand.
