Balloons Of Love. Or Are They?
Task:
Select one celebratory ritual and critically examine its positive and negative sides. Create a Augmented Reality A3 poster design
Brief:
As an honouring tradition to commemorate a particular life celebration, balloons are often released into the air. These balloons float skyward and disappear from sight. Weddings, anniversaries, memorials, birthdays are all so important for us to acknowledge. However, the important relationship of earth and animals that co-exist with humans is not worth sacrificing for such events where we release balloons, often with unawareness.
Balloon releases are having a harmful impact on marine life, particularly turtles and sea birds. Bans are beginning to be mandated by state governments, however this will be a challenge to enforce. Therefore, by sharing a message of the environmental impacts and bringing awareness of the devastating effects, hopefully balloon celebratory rituals will be replaced with other creative activities. The aim of this poster design is to highlight the rest of the story - the story after the balloon flies away, where it ends up and the far reaching impacts it has.
