Architectural Shadows - Handwoven Rugs

Architectural Shadows is a collection of floor coverings made as part of my graduation project at Bhadohi, India which is known the world over for its handmade carpets and therefore also called the Carpet City. The client was greatly influenced by the simplicity of Scandinavian design aesthetic and wanted to create a more sustainable collection catering to the US and Europe market.

The collection focuses on portraying the play of light and shadow specially seen in architectural styles such as Brutalism and Bauhaus. Bold shapes and lines as well as the material used played an important role here. Natural undyed wool from Bikaner, Rajasthan was chosen as the main material. Not only was it a more sustainable alternative but also had a raw quality to it and occurred naturally in neutral shades which greatly resonated with the chosen theme.
