Crossed Lines

For this five-week collaborative project, we were asked to create a game that encouraged people to start honest conversations about controversial topics. Using the moniker, Emily, Julia, Nigel, and Kaitlyn designed and developed an interactive board game.
Congratulations!
You’re about to play Crossed Lines, the game that opens up honest, yet silly conversation with friends new and old! Let’s get started.

What You’ll Need
(1) Gameboard
(1) Timer
(2 Sets) Question and Wild Cards
(6) Game pieces
(1) Box
(6 Sets) A&B Answer Cards

How to Play
The goal of the game is to make it to the end first, but before you do, let’s go over some basic instructions. Every player should choose one of six game pieces to represent their location on the board. This means that six people can play, but anywhere from 3 to 6 players is ideal.

To start, figure out which player’s birthday is closest to today’s date. This player will go first by choosing a question card from the top of the deck. After reading it aloud, each player should decide their answer and place either their A or B card face down. On the count of three, everyone should flip their cards and reveal their answers.

The player in-turn should begin the discussion portion of the turn by flipping the timer and explaining their answer. After everyone has had a chance to flip the timer and share their opinions, it’s time to tally up the points. For every player (including yourself) that chose the same answer as you, move forward one space in the direction of your choice. Keep in mind that answers can not be changed once they are placed down, even if minds are changed during the discussion. After this player moves his or her designated spaces, their turn is over and the player to their left begins.

Wild Cards
At the intersection of two or more paths is a wild space. These are represented with colorful dots on the board and correspond to wild cards. If you land on one of these spaces, your next turn is at the mercy of the wild card on top of the deck. Sometimes you may get to move forward and other times backwards, but you’re always in for a crazy surprise. These cards should be collected by each player throughout the game.

Party Rule
To break the ice at your next shindig, make each player take a drink for every wild space they land on.
