Practical Typography: Business Cards

Typography with a Purpose: Exploring Business Cards
The goal of this assignment was to use our lessons from typography so far to create business cards that we could see ourselves handing out to others. In my case, this business mentioned on the card is real, so if you live in the Boise, Idaho area, feel free to check it out.
Here were my final two designs, with front and back from top to bottom for each column. I had initially thought about using a black business card, but I didn't like the white text, as it felt too boring. I tried changing colors on the text and the accent line, but that really didn't end up looking any better for me.

I ended up moving more towards the second option as my main choice. I liked the green and brown combo, as it felt very woodsy and fitting for the City of Trees. The fonts were meant to be very old-school professional, and I think they hit the mark in that regard.

Overall, this was a great exercise in practical typography. Having to choose fonts not just based on how good they looked, but how well they could be read and understood, brings a much more critical eye to things than anything else. I'm grateful for this opportunity to try my hand at an original business card, especially since I needed to make one for the Boise Business Board anyway.
