Proviant or ‘provision’ is a collection of stories from the life of Aletta Maria Wessels (later Lettie van Zyl). The title refers to the way in which her prayers and strong-willed nature offered relief in times of hardship. Lettie was born during the First South African War and spent the first few years of her life in a concentration camp in Merebank. She also lived through both World War I and II. The stories are based on recollections of loved ones and are told by family members, friends and those who experienced life together in Vlakplaats. This book provides ‘food for thought’ about having enough, being content, and the way in which Lettie’s faith provided proviant for each day.
