Ricardo Bessa was recently commissioned by Critical Role to work on their latest project - Midst. Midst is an immersive, semi-improvised sci-fantasy series in which three mysterious and unreliable narrators spin a tale about complicated antiheroes making bad decisions in a world on the brink of disaster.
To aid the stories narrative, Critical Role commissioned three illustrations from Ricardo Bessa to help listeners visualise the setting and create an atmosphere for the series.
Ricardo's illustrations accompanied the first episode of the series titled 'Unrise'.
Midst is set in a space-western dystopian setting, which might not be something many audience members can easily visualise. The team at Critical Role wanted to ensure that audiences were getting a multi-sensory experience with the story, and gently animated the illustrations along with the story.
