Recycling Research Project

This was my outcome of a research project exploring recycling. I wanted to look into this subject as I personally didn’t recycle as much as I should have. So I began a 2 week trial and gathered, separated and documented every bit of waste that would usually just end up in our rubbish bin. My research moved onto looking at plastic as this material was by far the hardest to recycle and the biggest issue surrounding recycling. I eventually found a lot of shocking facts about plastic bags and wanted to try and tackle this issue in a creative way.
Each year, an estimated 1 trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide. Only 8% are recycled and many end up in the sea, killing marine animals, such as sea turtles, fish and even whale’s.

This is a full size 26ft. Bryde’s whale made from chicken wire, plastic bags and black sacks. A whale this size was found dead on a beach in Cairns Australia and it was discoverd that 6 m2 of plastic bags was wrap around it’s stomach.
