Coney Island
I grew up as a New York City kid going to Coney Island all summer long. I loved to spend the day laying on the beach, playing with friends in the surf and riding all of Coney Island's thrilling rides. As I grew older, I became fascinated with the history of this first great American amusement park. Today Coney Island is in a state of flux and transition; what it will end up being is not clear at this point.
I love the Coney Island I grew up with, and I want it to maintain its joyful, gaudy, egalitarian nature, and to embrace its history while finding a way towards a vibrant, successful future. As a photographer I love Coney Island as a subject matter; I love its bright colors, the shapes of the rides, standing right along side the broken-down-yet-beautiful ghosts of yesterday. I hope to celebrate Coney Isand's rich history, as well as to share my love for it with others through my photography.
