Every year, for the January/February full moon, the Baneshwar mela attracts villagers from the Indian States of Rajasthan, Madhya-Pradesh and Gujarat.
They come here, in Southern Rajasthan, to worship Lord Shiva at a local temple and immerse the ashes of their dead relatives at the Sangam at the Sangam, where both the Som and Mahi rivers meet. A ritual called Pind Daan, The mela is also the occasion to trade goods and cattle, watch popular films and have fun.
The fair is mostly popular amongst the Bhil tribal group of people who live in the three mentioned States and further away, in Chhattisgarh to the East and Maharashtra to the South.
