About This Projected
For this projected unit we need to take 3 photos of Fill Flash, 3 Dramatic use of Flash, 3 Flash on Location, 3 Portrait on a Landscape and 3 Landscape which means overall I have to hand in 15 photos which is a lot. This unit to me is all about experiencing with different lighting as we have to do three different lighting setups which am somewhat looking forward to and not at the time time as these are new lightings for me and very different. Firstly I have no ideas for this projected which is not usual for me and I'm not looking forward to doing location shoots as I do not like them because the weather needs to be good, were am I going to shot, founding an interesting place to shot, taking the heavy equipment and having people looking at you when you take photos is uncomfortable for me.

My Idea for this Unit
my idea for this unit is to do a still life product shoot with different types of bottle like wine, beer and water. To connect all of my photos, I will be adding different types of flowers into the photos.
For my shoots I need interesting and pretty bottles to take photos of so one day I want out to different shops like Asda, Lidl and Aldi to found bottles that I found interesting, I took photos of the ones I liked.

Context of the image

1. A short text about where the photographer or photoshoot is from.
Karl Taylor is from the United Kingdom, and he has been shooting for over 20 years.

2. How does the photographer work? I.E., do they work with fashion or music?
Karl Taylor is an advertising, commercial and a beauty and fashion photographer, but he first started his photography career as a photojournalist.

3. Where is their work featured, or where or who do they work for?
Karl Taylors work is featured at the National Geographic, The Smithsonian and The National Museum.

How is the image made?

1. What camera do you think is used? (35mm, Medium format? What type of lens?)
Karl Taylor used a Hasselblad Camera for this shot as it is his primary camera that he uses all the time.

2. Is it a studio image or shot on location?
This image is shot in a studio as you could not get this outside.

3. Was a flash used or natural lighting?
Flash was used for this shoot.

4. Is it a film or a digital image? If so, how is this expressed in the image?
This is a digital image this is shown through the very clear, clean focus and its very modern.

5. What models are in the image, and how are they posed?
There are no human models but there is a objected a bottle of whiskey with a glass and it is place off the centre on an angle.

6. How is the image composed? What about the composition makes it striking?
By the darkness and the different dark warm brown tones in the photo and the yellows (more like orange) tones that are warm and that catches your eye and make you look at the photo. It feels like your in the woods.

7. Is the image very clear, or is it slightly out of focus?
it is very clear.

How is the image graded?

1. What tones are in the image? (i.e. heavy even tones? high contrast?)
The tones are dark because of the dark lighting and clear because of the colours used in the image. The photo are warm because of the browns and yellows/orange that are in there and because of that it makes the overall tone of the image calm.

2. What sort of colour is it? (i.e., highly saturated or unsaturated? Warm or cool tones?)
The colours in the photo are brown, yellow, orange, red and gold, and the tone of the photo is warm, and I would say the photo is saturated because of the rich warm tones.

3. Is the image very clean or edited to appear older?
The photo is very clean and edited to look more modern but you can not tell that the image is edited.

4. Is there any texture to the image that makes it unique?
The texture of the image is smooth.

Self-reflection

1. Talk here about how the image caught your eye and how you will use all the points above to improve your work.
The warm golden tones, how well edited the images is, thats how it caught my eye, and how modern it is as that is very much my style. What I have gotten from this photo is that the bottle and the lighting is the talking point and thats what makes the image so for my shoots I will be taking that with me.
These videos where incredibly helpful for me, as I would not have known how to set up the lighting nor know where to put then or how many lights I need to use for the shoot. If it wasn't for these videos, I would've been there for hours, trying to figure it out.
My Plan
My plan for this shoot is to take three different types of photos, with different bottles like wine, water and beer and do three different lightings and setups.

The first shoot with the wine bottle I will use a white backdrop, the flower i will be using is cherry blossom and I will get it from my tree that grows in my garden, and the lighting will be bright.

My second shoot with the water bottle I will use a black backdrop, i will be using cherry blossom again for this shoot, and the lighting will be dark.

My last shoot with the beer bottle i will use a yellow backdrop, will us cherry blossom and the lighting will be light.

I will get these shots done in one day.

I will also like to get some shots with some water droplets on the bottles to do that half glycerin and half water.
Behind the Scenes
I used three lights
My Photos
Final Edited
For this shoot it was easy for me to do, but at the same time hard because I had a lot of difficulties with lighting because of you being able to see glare all the light in the bottle, so I had to move the lighting around quite a bit and as well being able to everything like the logos on the bottles, for this shoot, I spent more time setting up then actually taking photos, the setting up for this photo shoot took me a very long time which is something I've never done before on my shoots as they have never required that much time before so this was very new experience for me, and I think I might want to adventure into it in future shoots maybe not for University. I originally was going to do it in one day, but I was unable to so for my last shoot which was with the beer I shot that the next day.

I used lightroom and photoshop to edit, I did very little editing all I did was crop, bring the contrast, saturation and exposure up and made the cherry blossoms in the water bottle photos more pink. The photo ended darker the I originally thought so I brighten the photos up abit.

When I was doing this shot it was a bit hard at first because firstly this was something I have never done before but it was something I have wanted to do so I was excited for this shot and it was hard to get the exposure right and it took a bit of time but I got it in the end. I really enjoyed doing this shoot and this is something I would like to do again in the future.
For this shoot I took a lot of photos which made it vary hard for me to chose my final photos as I liked all of them.

I made the liquid by using food colouring as I could make my now colour that were perfect for this shot. At one point I used sparkling water and really like the outcome, I think it's better than Stillwater. I used pink roses for this shot.

I used lightroom and photoshop to edit, I did very little editing all I did was crop, bring the contrast, saturation and exposure up I wanted more pink and darker shadows so thats what I did.

I'm really happy with the way these photos came out and I think the flowers helped making the photos more interesting by adding colour to the image. When I was took these photos at sunset to make the photos dark and moody but because I took these when the sun was setting I had to keep changing how bright the lights where. My dad is pretending to be a Gardner on his break, drinking a beer, these photos are like an Ad.

I used lightroom and photoshop to edit I did very little editing all I did was crop, bring the contrast, saturation and exposure up., why lightroom as photoshop is a little bit confusing to me and I have never really used lightroom before so I thought I would give it a go I really like it so I will use it in the future.

I am really happy with the way this shot went as it was quicker and easier then I thought it’ll would go, the location I picked worked out really well because of the different colour doors that the houses have helped made it more interesting and colourful.

The bottles and cans I choose for this shot were more modern, bright and colourful as it would go more with the theme of this shot.

For one of the images I had my assistant hold up the cherry blossom that I had from a previous shoot and I really like how that image came out I thought at first it would not or did work.

I used lightroom and photoshop to edit, I did very little editing all I did was crop, bring the contrast, saturation and exposure up.

I'm really happy with the way these photos came out because at first I did not think I would have enough photos or that they would be landscape but I ended up having lots of photos and landscape photos. The image in the middle is one of my favourites because of the bluebells which I was not expecting and I just so happened to stumble upon it. I played around with the edited and did somethings that I have never done before like dehaze saturation and clarity to make it more whimsical, bright and colourful I would like to do this in the future again.
Overall Conclusion
Overall when I was told about this projected I was unhappy that we had to do location shoot for any reasons after these shots I still do not like location shots and hope I have never have to do them again. I have more confident and comfortable in the studio and would like to continue doing studio in the future. I used lightroom for the first time to edit all of my photos as it is something I have never used before and because Photoshop is still confusing for me to use I'm really happy with the way, it edited my photos I will be using it for future editing purposes didn't think I would like it as it looked very confusing and I knew where the truck all the tools were in Photoshop and I didn't really want to relearn everything but I actually it wasn't and I wish I had been using it from the start as I would've been editing my photos quicker. I also did not do much editing for the projected as most of my photos did not need it which has never happened to me before I would like to keep up with this.
