Colonial Timber Restoration

Since its creation in the early 1800’s using squared-off and carefully fitted and joined timbers with joints secured by large wooden pegs, this spruce timber frame was carefully restored in 2021. Exposing and cleaning the members supported the realization of its original identity. Traditional methods of building with heavy timbers highlight this coastal New England town’s heritage.

Original hardware, insect damage, tensile strain, and construction marks were elected to be left as-is. Modern communication tools (i.e. photographs) showcase these characteristics, the know-how of the original craftsman as well as the timber’s integrity.
