Another assignment from my design class was Amazing Animals. This was an exploration in design featuring an animal of our choice. In this example, I chose a river otter. I sketched several renditions of an otter from a reference photograph. Shown below are some of those examples.
The image below is an example of a transformation sketch, were I took the otter, and attempted to transform it, in a playful way, to represent something different.
The sketch below is an example of one of the gestural essence sections of the assignment, where I explored some different tools and methods of drawing some of the animals essence into the image.
The next image shown is a sketch idea for a corporate logo. A company that might be using the otter or the selected photo to draw ideas for a professional logo could find this to be a simple and pleasing image to use.
This sketch is my attempt at creating an encyclopedic drawing of the otter shown in the reference photograph. The idea was to complete a drawing that was as true to the actual animal as possible. The actual photograph used for this assignment follows this image for reference.
