Honeybee on Tulle Embroidery (2021)

Honeybee on Tulle
This was the third embroidery project I stitched on tulle (and the smallest with the dimensions being 3x3"), the subject being a small honeybee. The design was heavily inspired by the honeybee within the game Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and is meant to be a simplified, unrealistic representation of the insect instead of appearing as one you would see in real life. This project was created in May 2021 and used more materials than my other projects due to the tulle requiring different techniques; the tulle, printable stabilizer paper was used to create a base for me to stitch upon, shimmery organza fabric for the wings, and tissue paper.
To start off the project, I used my iPad to design the bee outline and choose the matching thread colors to be as close to the in-game icon as possible. Below is the final design I used as a guide which includes the thread colors and design outline. Stitching on tulle is much different from stitching on regular fabric so the stabilizer cutout is what is holding this project together.
Because this project was much smaller than my other butterfly projects, the stabilizer cutout included the head, abdomen, legs, and "pollen pants," because the antennas and leg tips were a single thread wide, I did not use stabilizer on the edges and stitched along the tulle instead. I incorporated white sheer organza for the wings by stitching the wing veins in black before cutting them out and attaching them to the tulle.
