Berglin - Landscape (Mehring-Platz, Berlin, Germany)

Landscape intervention at MehringPlatz (Project) - Berlin (Germany)

In the city of the bike, the idea is to create a topography that counterbalances the flatness of the city. Friedrichstrasse starts and ends in Mehring Platz, but tourists never get to it. In one of the most popular streets in Berlin, tourist and berliners have a walk, shop, but never get to the end of it. So letā€™s give Friedrichstrasse the start it deserves, letĀ“s remind people in Berlin, that MehringPlatz is where everything beggins.

The idea is to give the people living here something worth seeing, something that they can see from their window and make them feel proud of the place they live in. Being this a landscape project, itā€™s really important to take into account that the space is not only going to be lived at ground level, but also seen from above by the neighbors.

The creation of topography is based on the idea of recreating nature, but in an artificial way. Therefore we use the spectrum of the floral species, to use these colors in the topography. Itā€™s about playing with two opposite concepts, to achieve an artificial landscape.

The topography goes off-limits and can be seen from the outside of the main square. This invites the citizens to come in, explore, discover and eventually stay. The design should be felt as an invasion of public space, as if something is actually conquering the city space. A flat path is also design to allow bicycle traffic, baby trolleys and wheelchairs.
