Hylton Adam Revell's profile

Wordmark Design // Hotelromeo

I designed and crafted this typeface based on 1920's, 30's Art Deco aesthetic. The style is often characterised by its bold geometric shapes and lavish ornamentation. Historian Bevis Hillier defined Art Deco as "an assertively modern style that ran to symmetry rather than asymmetry. The aesthetic of the style have always found a place of love in my eye. During its heyday, Art Deco represented luxury, glamour, exuberance, and faith in social and technological progress. This is the reason i decided to design a logotype for hotelromeo with its form boldly embodied in the characteristics of Art Deco.
Typography is not designed purely with construction of the characters  but more the relationships of the negative spaces between them. Thats the key to making a bold beauty which eyes grace with ease.
The construction of a the 'EST 3891' a much lighter weighted type to sit with the wordmark hotelromeo. Its based on similar aesthetic and borrows certain structural characteristics of the E and the slightly condensed of the x-height. I has to be re weighted when scaled really small with a wider kerning to counter visual illusion.

This shows the overshoot of the 'O's. To make sure the illuison appears the same size as all other characters
The wordmark — hotelromeo
The wordmark — hotelromeo in the rounded octaganal holding device. The 8 sided shape is symbolic of the 80's. The core influence of my character. Its incredibly close to my heart.
The wordmark — hotelromeo de-bossed in the rounded octaganal holding device.
