Cody Alder's profile

Alde Canisters and Measuring System

This project investigates Design innovation and thinking within the domestic kitchen environment as a system and looks for the interplay of cultural meaning, value and experience.

I chose to exam this environment through the lens of my own memories and family interactions. My goal was to communicate an experience that has powerful meaning to them and then develop product concepts that capture or build on the essence of that narrative. Great product and experience are born from a rich narrative and this richness comes from relevant meaning and insightful cultural reference.

Aldé was created to focus on reducing clutter, mess, and waste. It stems from memories of baking with my mother as a child. The Alde canisters double as a measuring system, eliminating the need for extraneous measuring spoons/cups – reducing the number of items in the cupboard and dishwasher. The canisters are composed of a family of 5 different jar sizes and two different lid sizes, so that users can use and arrange them as they see fit.
