ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Belonging Project is a participatory research project that explores what supports and what gets in the way of “belonging” in the lives of people with intellectual or developmental disabilities. This was an academic assignment, wherein I proposed a visual identity for The Belonging Project.

DESIGN PROBLEM
The client wanted a visual identity that would promote the social inclusion of people with disabilities through design that is approachable and creative, without perpetuating stereotypes.

THE PROCESS
The process started with a kickoff meeting with the client. I then created two rough concepts and presented them to the client. After some refinement, I had a final presentation with the final concept along with mockups and the identity’s usage guidelines in a booklet.

THE LOGO
The logo represents the project’s equity, community, and social inclusion values through people/arrows coming together. The arrows originate from different locations yet find the same destination, just as people may be given different challenges, but should be able to have equal opportunities. The icon has hand-drawn outlines, creating an imperfect silhouette which emphasizes the humanness of the project.
