Something Holder
(AEID 1385 Rapid Prototyping)
Early Sketches
The idea for this project was to make a miscellaneous holder for a desk or other work space. I wanted to make something simple but have something interesting to it. I started with a few ideas, below you'll see two different styles I came up with, I ended up prototyping both ideas.
Early Prototypes
I stared with Legos and paper to get the basic dimensions and shape.
Renderings
This is the first rendering I came up with I liked the basic idea but felt that I could do better with my other idea. The second rendering is of my other idea. I'm very excited about this design. I love how it looks and the function of the piece.
3D Prototype
Although I'm a fan of how this turned out I wanted to get back to my original idea. With some help from instructors I was able to learn some new techniques that aloud me to make the changes I wanted.
Final Print
I am very happy with my final print. The design of the pipes, The size, the fillets in the bottom of the box, the feet added to the bottom of the design it all looks very good. If I were to make this product for real I think id change the materials to a wood base with metal pipes to give it some contrast. But I am very happy with this project.
