3D PRINTING CERAMICS : TWISTED VASE

As a design engineer, I am constantly looking for new manufacturing techniques, new ideas to create and new materials to work with. Over the years I've worked a lot with 3D printing, since it is such a fast and effective way to create an object.

I recently came across Nicolas David and his ceramics 3D printing workshop TYGRE and I immediately fell in love with this technique. Made accessible by the Dutch designer Olivier Van Herpt, it gathers complex technology along with ancestral and noble materials such as ceramics (earthenware, porcelain and stoneware).

I had the opportunity to experiment with this technique by 3D printing one of my design, a twisted vase.

The following pictures show the printing process as well as the final touches on the soft clay.

The pattern resulting from the 3D printing is mesmerizing !

Blowing air on the part is mandatory to prevent the vase from collapsing.
