Unmerged is one of my first projects. I chose to create an animatic even though I've never done it before at that time. So I've decided to experiment and explore something new and learn in the process of creating it. It was a hard time because I've also had a huge difficulty with what sources and tools I had in my possession but I kept insisting to make it.
This animatic about a small creature who was supposed to have wings to be "normal" among his kind but he didn't and received criticism about it and he was isolated, no one liked him because of his uniqueness. In order to get his wings he had to do some extra work, a different journey unlike his peers. Our small little friend finally toughens up and decides to go on that journey and get his chance to grow his own pair of wings in his own unique way.
A glimpse of the character designs. I wanted him to be round, small and adorable. I added a pear of cute cat-like ears and a "devil-like" tail to show the "imperfection" of these creatures. The curles are there because of how my hair is like so I wanted to give him this detail from my look.
His insecurities and bad feeling are represented by these "ghosts" which have the shape of a tear for the obvious reasons. While working on it, trying to figure out how they'll look like I got some ideas from Spirited Away and Harry Potters' Dementors.
The wizard was inspired by Disneys' Merlin from 'The Sword in the Stone' and some other characters.
