It seems like another favorite bird in my collection has arrived. I drew a Great Spotted Woodpecker. Surprisingly often this year I meet this handsome bird around Tbilisi.

And it is especially joyful to see woodpeckers regularly near the house and even right out the window.

An absolutely unexpected fact for me was that these woodpeckers eat so many different things (berries, insects, larvae, grains, nuts) that their diet can even include eggs and chicks of some small birds - warblers, flycatchers, tits, finches.

Didn't know that they eat this kind of food. Drawing woodpeckers is quite easy  deal because the contrasts are strong: red, white, black and blue-black. It is much more difficult to draw chaffinches or even a common chiffchaff to convey their plumage in the right colors and tonal transitions.
