Self Critique
Overall, I am pretty happy with how this project came out. I was going for a very light-hearted and and romantic mood and I felt I captured that well with this scene. For the most part, the textures on this relatively subtle, but they add just enough of a worn feel to really make this feel like its taking place at a carnival thats a little bit used from years of loving use. I struggled a little bit with the texturing on the flower, as there aren't many textures for flowers that I could use for free, however I think the solution I had worked really well. For the petals, I used the milk preset shader to give a bit of that slightly translucent feel. For the stem, I first tried to use a bark texture, but I found it wasn't quite giving me the look I was going for, however I then ended up using the grain 3d texture and connecting it to a bump map.
I think what I could most improve upon is the rendering. I was using CPU rendering because I had some textures that weren't compatible with the GPU rendering, so my render time was already up by 3 minutes. I knew I had to use transmission samples because I had glass in my scene, however trying to keep the samples low while avoiding a grainy look to the glass was tricky. After my first render that I presented in class, I went in and did a few tests renders upping the transmission samples. I started with a two and half minutes and by the time I had gotten rid of most of the grain, the render time was at almost five minutes. I think in the future I am going to try and find ways to maximize render quality while minimizing render time.
