Ball point pen on paper
This drawing shows the deeply personal process in which a woman is met with the prospect of both her age and the sense of her entrapment within this. She is shown grasping her face, physically reacting to the inherent contradiction in her condition - while her mind, psyche and spirit remain young, she is nevertheless trapped in a constantly aging, and now tangibly old body. "Locked" ultimately portrays the metaphysical idea of our own spiritual confinement within mortal shells. This is a universally affecting piece, as all members of our current and self-aware society are intrinsically joined by our common mortality. I hope for the audience to be engaged in this woman’s struggle and journey to confront the human condition, with a sense that we will all eventually face this: a situation in which we feel unbearably alone, yet inexorably linked.
