Choose a city (San Antonio) and give it a new dynamic identity

San Antonio home to the River Walk – a 15-mile network of stone paths along the San Antonio River that connect hotels, shops, restaurants, theaters and more. Entertains with top theme parks: SeaWorld San Antonio, Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Morgan’s Wonderland.

Recognized for events including Fiesta San Antonio, Luminaria: Contemporary Arts Festival, Culinaria Food & Wine Festival, the Conjunto Music Festival and the largest Día De Los Muertos celebration in the U.S.

Below are some early sketches of ideas to San Antonio's identity. I moved on from those ideas when i found out that the signature event of the city is the yearly fiesta. With San Antonio being a very colorful city, i thought it appropriate to make a playful Dynamic Identity which could be incorporated in the Fiesta event aswell as the city branding. 

The Dynamic Identity is based off of the fiesta flag garland that decorate the city. The dynamic part of the identity is that the pattern of the flags is generated while the letters and motives can be changed, added or completely removed.  

The code for the pattern generation creates patterns with the use of sine and cosine  which is inspired by San Antonio's riverwalk flowing water. There is a fixed number of colors that the patterns are generated from, so it doesn't take all colors into account but it has a decent variety.

It is supposed to be open-source so everybody can make their own patterns and flag garlands and share them or print them out to use them in the city.

Below are some examples of how the Identity could be used in branding the city. The identity allows for both a flag-garland-format and a format where only the patterns-and-motives are at play. At times where the yearly fiesta is not held or prepared for, the identity should only use the patterns-and-motives like with the badge and poster mockups:
