Regarded as one of the most sought-after licenses in the United States, the private pilot license (PPL) is akin to a driver's license for cars and allows you to fly an aircraft legally. The basic skills include navigating small aircraft, emergency procedures, and flight planning. People seek PPL for different reasons, but the most common is for hobbies and sports or as the first line to becoming an airline pilot.

Once acquired, you can legally fly in and out of civil airports, cross-country, and inter-country flights. The PPL, however, is classified as per the rating, which relates to the specific training category, and aircraft class, for example, an airplane limited to land operations.

You cannot receive compensation or operate a hiring business with the PPL. But, you can use it for nonprofit operations such as charity and community events and search and locate operations. In such cases, reimbursement for fuel, rental, and airport expenses is allowed.
