Letterpress Identity
Type 2 | Spring 2022

Project: Choose a letter, a number, and a punctuation mark. Visit Central Print and print your glyphs, as many as you can find. Scan & arrange to create an abstract logomark. Extrapolate your new mark into a brand identity—create a full brand guidelines book for this brand.

Solution: My glyphs were X, 3, and the apostrophe ' (or, if you prefer, the comma ,). Playing with these glyphs, layered over one another InDesign, yielded some very weird—very fun—graphic shapes.

My brand became Roadways—a fictitious advocacy organization focused on transportation safety & urban planning in the US. I researched real transportation advocacy organizations, Department of Transportation campaigns, and more, to flesh out my imaginary organization into one that I would genuinely like to see exist. In St. Louis alone, 22 pedestrians were killed in 2020, and more traffic deaths and injuries occur almost weekly. With Build Back Better funds flowing to states & cities, why not radically reimagine our infrastructure?!
