Inspired by the idea of structural fabrics, I decided to experiment with the properties of existing textiles. Working with heat application and methods of strengthening materials adopted from kitchen techniques, an opportunity arose when I discovered that Suede hardens when immersed in boiling water over a lapse of time. This sparked possibilities of creation with the new characteristic of this material as it allowed exploration of construction. Driven by these factors, my project revolves around the idea of the fabric holding up on its own, contrary to the usual notion that people have of textiles being flimsy and requiring support.
