The Spokane Fire

In order to become a firefighter with the Spokane Fire Department, applicants must be willing to work under adverse weather conditions and in confined spaces. The job requires a high degree of physical fitness including the ability to climb ladders and maneuver in tight areas.

They must also be able to hear, speak and maintain communications under difficult conditions. During a fire, firefighters use various equipment and tools to extinguish fires, perform search and rescue operations, and rescue and transport people from dangerous situations.

These tasks require good vision and hearing, as well as a sense of balance and coordination to maneuver in cramped or cluttered spaces.
