ADVERTISING AND NARRATIVE
WEEK 1
THURSDAY 27TH JANUARY 2023
The unit was explained in today's class, and a presentation of photographers using low-key and high-key approaches was also shown. Compared to higher key photos, which have very little contrast between the two, low key photographs have more contrast between the lighter and darker portions. We also examined the various lighting setups that might be used for this unit and how they would affect an image, particularly a portrait.
EXAMPLES OF HIGH KEY
Technique of photography that minimises or eliminates black shadows in an image by using unusually bright lighting.
EXAMPLES OF LOW KEY
Underlit images with strong contrast and dark tones
UNIT BREIF:
In the brief we are asked to create 15 images in which are broken down into 5 sections.
Fill Flash: When the foreground of a photo is underexposed due to a bright background, this form of lighting is used to brighten it by focusing on the main subject there.
Dramatic use of flash:
Flash will be used to focus the light on a subject rather than the whole image.

Flash on location: Flash will be used as the main source of lighting when out of the studio
Portrait on a landscape: a model will be placed into a surrounding which will compliment one another.

Landscape Image: An image which will consist of a non human subject, usually a view outdoors of nature and buildings.

It looks like he works both in studio and location but in this specific image he shot on location. He tends to work more on location.

Moodboard
My Photoshoot plan:
My plan is to for the location portion is to photograph my model in a park filled with greenery like trees and lots of flowers. Im going for a spring theme and to show that my model will be wearing a spring outfit which includes a nice cream dress covered in lovely flowers and brown boots that accompany the dress along with a cream cardigan. I felt it would really compliment the flowers in the park. For the studio portion i wanted to link with the spring theme so i thought about using spring fruits.
Lighting diagrams
For the dramatic use of flash i ended up using two lights on for the backdrop and one for the subject.
For the fill flash I also used two lights both on the subject , one high above and one directly in front of the subject.
